Alpena, Mich — The Wildcat baseball team hosted the MacKenzie invitational this weekend. The tournament honors former head coach Scott MacKenzie and his late wife Laurie. Scott is still involved with the program and keeps the book on game days.
Alpena rallied from a 3-0 deficit to win their first game against Marquette 4-3 on Friday. They cruised to victory against Sault Ste. Marie in their first game Saturday morning, winning 10-0. The Wildcats fought back and forth with Standish in the championship, but ultimately fell 7-6.
Alpena improved to 11-4 following the tournament. The Wildcats are also in position to accomplish their start of season to goal of winning the Big North Conference. They are currently 4-0 in-conference and have their next conference action on Wednesday against TC West.
