Alpena and Alcona schools are headed to state robotics competition

ALPENA, MI. –

Two area schools, Alpena and Alcona are on their way to the robotics competition in Saginaw. It’s the first time Alcona has qualified.

“They should be extremely proud of themselves. We have had robotics here for seven years and this is the first time we have ranked this high in district competition.” said team leader, Rachel Somers.

The team says that two rounds of district competition allowed them to get the experience needed to improve their robot.

“The first competition we went to was a test run. We had a lot of failures and stuff to learn along the way. Our second competition was a final product.” said robotics team member, Ellie Mae Spalding.

Alpena High School will also head to states, having placed 6th at the district level. Both teams will make their way to Saginaw Valley State University with hopes of qualifying for nationals in Houston, Texas.
