LINCOLN, Mich. — With April being National Volunteer Month, WBKB wants to highlight one of our young volunteers helping to make her community a better place.

Danica Jamieson is a home-schooled student who spends her free time giving back. This year, she’s spent her last few months giving her time to the pop–up food pantries in Alcona County. Just yesterday, Jamieson helped assemble and serve over 300 boxes of food for families in need in her community.

“I’m home–schooled, and I had a school project where I needed to volunteer somewhere and I chose here,” Jamieson said. “I liked it so much I just wanted to come back.”

While she says it’s a little intimidating being the youngest in the room, Danica knows some of the other volunteers from a knitting group in the community. These pantries have donated over $1 million worth of food during the pandemic, and Danica says it’s awesome that they’re able to help.

“I really like it, It’s kind of cool being behind the scenes and being a part of helping people I guess,” Jamieson said. “I think it’s awesome that we’re able to do this.”

The next pop-up pantry is on Wednesday, April 28. Donations are welcome at https://alconaseniors.org/, and you can find information on how to volunteer there as well. Anyone in need of food in Alcona County can call 989-334-FOOD.
