Alcona Elementary School helps prepare incoming Kindergarten students

ALCONA, MI. – Imagine dropping off a child at school for the very first time. There is no doubt that this adjustment can be difficult. But, incoming students at Alcona Elementary School don’t have to worry about a harsh transition into Kindergarten. Kindergarten camp was created to ease kids into life at school long before the start of the school year.

“They come in they get to meet their teachers and walk through the cafeteria. A lot of them have not done that before or been in large groups of peers. It is a great chance for the kids to meet their peers and teachers so that they are more prepared in the fall.” said Tim Lee, Alcona Elementary Principle.

“The priority is education, but we also get to provide a safe place for kids to come in and to have meals. Sometimes during the summer that unfortunately gets lost. Daycare can be a challenge especially for working families in different positions and jobs. ”
Educational programs are a major resource to parents with childcare needs, while also educating students–even when school isn’t in session.
