Alcona Community Schools to shift to remote learning

LINCOLN, Mich. –  Starting tomorrow April 8th, Alcona Community Schools will make the transition to remote learning due to recent COVID–19 cases.

The school district has notified parents, staff and the community of 3 additional COVID–19 cases.

This time superintendent Dan O’Connor said one case was confirmed at Alcona Elementary and one each at Alcona Middle and High School.

ACS is working with District Health Department Number 2 in an effort to contact trace anyone affected.

That’s a total of 8 confirmed COVID–19 cases since returning back to classes after spring break.

“The amount of quarantines and positive cases at this point staffing challenges in our food service and transportation departments it’s logistically impossible to continue, said Alcona Community Schools Superintendent Dan O’Connor.

O’Connor said there’s been no evidence of any direct school link of the virus; but spring break community spread is truly a contributor.

He’s asking the ACS community to do their part to fight the virus.

Students will return to in–person classes on April 19th.
