Alcona collects first conference win of the season over Fairview

ALCONA, Mich. — Going into Monday’s game, the Alcona Tigers varsity soccer team were on a four-game losing streak. Last Friday they fell to Sault Ste. Marie 4-1, then lost three more matches on Saturday in the Oscoda Tournament to Oscoda (4-1), Saginaw Novel (5-1), and Ortonville (5-0).

The Tigers secured a much-needed victory as they snapped their four-game losing streak, beating Fairview 4-3. Not only that, Alcona picked up their first conference win (North Star League) of the season. Corey Boboltz, Joel Steiner, Tim Jamieson, and Ashton Rigby each finished with a goal for Alcona (2-8).

Jacob Bones had two goals and Isaiah Ford finished with a goal for Fairview (1-2). Despite allowing four goals, Sam Ford finished with 19 saves on the night.

Alcona will head to Roscommon on Friday. Meanwhile, Fairview will look to turn things around as they will travel to Whittemore-Prescott on Wednesday.
