Alcona boys and girls dominate Au Gres-Sims on home court

ALCONA — The Alcona Tigers JV/Girls Varisty/Boys Varsity hosted the Au Gres-Sims Wolverines, and for the girls it was their basketball season opener. The Tigers held the lead from the start outscoring the Wolverines 33-5 in the first half. Senior Hailee Gordy and junior Megan Grove led the squad with 16 points. Gordy came alive in the fourth quarter scoring 9 of 14 points for the Tigers and Alcona sealed the deal 58-17.

The Tigers strongest quarter came in the second when they had a 19-0 run. Gordy made two 3-pointers in the second. Alcona finished the night making 10 of 12 free throws. Up next, the Tigers face Posen on Tuesday, December 11th at 7:30 p.m. The Wolverines host the Mio Thunderbolts on Friday at 7 p.m.

Then the boys took the court, the (0-1) Tigers vs. the (1-0) Wolverines. The first quarter was a back and forth battle. Ben Salgat led Au Gres-Sims with four points in the first period, he contributed 19 total. The quarter ended with a Josh Kilbourn buzzer beater three for the 11 to 8 lead. Kilbourn made 8 total points.

Fourth quarter free throws and clutch shots helped Alcona top Au Gres-Sims 62-56. Antavius Mikazes led the team with 16 points with help from Damion Stewart with 12 and Pierce Bilbey made 10 points.

Up next, Alcona faces Posen on Monday, December 10th at 7:30 p.m. This Thursday the Wolverines travel to Mio for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff.
