Alcona baseball jumps past Whittemore-Prescott, Cardinals softball cruises to sweep against Tigers

Alcona's Jacob Sytek had to back track to make a circus catch in the Tigers' 2-1 win over Whittemore-Prescott.

Alcona, Mich — Alcona hosted birthday games for seniors Raegen Eller and Josh Kilbourn on the softball and baseball diamonds against Whittemore-Prescott. Eller took the mound in game one for the Tigers while Kilbourn was positioned at first.

The softball Tigers had a hard time scoring runs and found themselves down 5-1 after 2 innings in the first game and ultimately took the loss. They also fell 8-3 in the second game of the double header. Whittemore was anchored by Jayda McKuen’s pitching in game 1 and had a great offensive showing by all players.

The baseball Tigers and Cardinals played a gritty first game that relied heavily on defense. Jacob Sytek led the way for Alcona on defense, making a circus catch on a short pop up to short. Zach Stephenson broke the 1-1 tie with a single to left as Alcona held on to win 2-1. Both sides stepped up their offense in game two with Alcona coming out on top 7-3.
