ALPENA, Mich— As the first day of school is approaching, area children can look forward to the Boys and Girls Club after school program starting back up. Grade level kids and teens can expect some restrictions.
The boys and girls club has reduced their normal intake number this year from 120 to 70 children. Social distancing will be implemented and children are required to wear a face covering while inside the building.
Children will be given health screenings upon entering the building and staff will sanitize surfaces multiple times a day.
Boys and Girls Club Executive Director Bradley Somers said, “He wants to get children back to their regular schedule while providing a safe and clean environment.”
Boys and girls between the ages of 6 and 18 are welcome to join the club. Kids and teens will have access to virtual and face to face tutoring in addition to hands on activities and the free food program.
The Boys and Girls Club of Alpena will start its after school program Tuesday, Sept. 8 from 2 to 6pm.
