Advocates Rally Against Sexual Abuse and Domestic Violence

There was a lot of noise in the middle of Culligan Plaza on Saturday, that’s because a group of supporters, and survivors wanted to bring awareness to sexual abuse and domestic violence.

There was a sea of teal blue and purple spreading nothing but stories, hugs, and tears Saturday. A rally was held for advocates to rally against both sexual abuse, and domestic violence.

“No means no, it always will mean no,” one survivor said.

Dealing with pain and grief from their experiences some of the rally goers believe that the justice system is not punishing abusers with enough time behind bars.

“This means a lot to me that there’s a lot of people out here to show support. So many people are here for a change, a change in the system, and change in justice that people claim is not right, 90 days is not enough,” Doug Sadler said.

Showing bravery, after being assaulted in college, Maddie Cardwell thanked her family for showing support during her road to recovery.

“Thank you all for being here, and thank you all for sticking up for survivors. Never stop talking about it, this is not OK,” Cardwell cried.

Sadler, survivors, and supporters want to continue to spread the word about issues on sexual abuse, and domestic violence, and hope that Saturday’s rally creates change within this community.

“Anyone who is open to speaking and open to telling their story don’t be afraid. Just because something happened stand up and get your story out there, because it only takes one person to make that change,” he noted.
