ACC’s Marine Tech Students Help U of M

Marine Technology students at ACC helped lend the University of Michigan a helping hand.

The Marine Technology course is a program of study that deals with ROV’s and other underwater technology. Students get experience with remotely operated vehicles, hydraulics, electronics and more.

Four students recently helped lend a helping hand to the University of Michigan’s Marine Technology course. The task? To fix an ROV tether so that it could receive video.

“The tether is really like everything that goes to the ROV. It’s all of your power it’s all of your electricity it’s all of your communications,” said Nathan Lytle, Marine Tech student.

It took about 4–5 class periods, 12–20 hours, and a whole team of ACC’s Marine Technology students to complete the project. The group included Matt Southwell, Nathan Lytle, Lucas Adams, and Eric Luty.

The students represented Alpena well and their help saved the University of Michigan $15,000.
