ACC offers mental health services

ALPENA, Mich. — Alpena Community College students spoke and the school listened.  Strengthening Institutions is a new program focused on non-academic services.  The program began the last week of February and offers free counseling services.

The services are for full time, part–time, dual enrolled or early college students at both campuses.

Program Director Amanda Sumerix explained the goal of the program and said the students expressed the need for mental health services through a survey ACC provided.  Sumerix said she thinks COVID may have contributed to students feeling the need for mental health services.

ACC is offering four sessions per student per semester during the fall and spring terms.
