Michael Gilbert joined WBKB in September 2016. He makes his way to Northeast Michigan from his home state of Oregon. Before moving to Alpena, Michael attended Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Digital Media which fed his passion to become a multimedia journalist.
During his time at Marquette University, Michael started working for their college television station, Marquette University Television. Starting as the Sports Producer, Michael produced, anchored and reported various sportscasts during the week. In his senior year He interned with the sports department sports for WISN-12. During his time as an intern, he covered the Milwaukee Brewers and Milwaukee Bucks. Michael co-hosted the show Cynical Sports at Marquette and performed play by play duties for men’s soccer and basketball. Michael provided color commentary for basketball, volleyball, and lacrosse.
Raised in Oregon, Michael is a huge Portland Trail Blazers. From there, he roots for the San Francisco 49ers, the Milwaukee Brewers and the New York Islanders. Michael is of course a Marquette basketball fan. Michael enjoys basketball and will mostly be seen playing at the nearest gym. Whether it’s hiking, reading, or enjoying a good cup of coffee, Michael loves to be with his friends. In his spare time, He likes to hit the lanes to go bowling as well. If you want to talk sports, don’t shy away, Michael is always up for a good conversation.
Michael is excited to embrace the Northeast Michigan community and is looking forward to driving in the snow for the first time in the snow.
