A perfect night at Park Family Field

ALPENA, Mich. — The Alpena Wildcats varsity soccer team broke a new team record in wins (17) in a single-season as they defeated John Glenn in the district semifinals by a score of 7-0.  Ivo Arvidsson-Ullberg, Kyle Barbeau and Kolton Goebel each scored twice and Austin Townsend put the icing on the cake as he added a goal.

Back in August, Alpena defeated John Glenn 1-0. On Tuesday, the Wildcats made a statement as this game wasn’t even close.

“I’m very pleased with our efficiency,” said Head Coach Tim Storch. “That’s what you need for the state tournament.”

With Arviddson-Ullberg’s two goals and three assists on the night, he currently holds the school record in goals (27) and assists (18) in a single-season. Breaking the previous marks of 26 goals that was set back in 1992 by Gabe Miller and 16 assists that was set in 2016 by Tommy Hein.

The Wildcats are a game away from winning their first district championship since 1997. On Saturday, Alpena will travel to Gaylord to take on the Blue Devils. Two of Alpena’s losses came from Gaylord in the regular season. Game time is at 5 p.m.
