A night that Brayden Mallak will never forget

OSCODA, Mich. — When you accomplish a milestone in your life, it’s something you will never forget. Brayden Mallak will never forget the night of Feb. 7, 2020. Not only he helped the Oscoda Owls win back-to-back Big Dipper Conference Championships, but he scored over 1,000 career points. Mallak becomes the 6th player at Oscoda High School to achieve this milestone.

“It’s a dream come true,” said Mallak. “I’ve been thinking of this moment since I was young.”

Coming into this game, Mallak only needed five points to reach 1,000. He got off to a slow start, missing his first three shot attempts. At the end of the first quarter, he recorded only two points. So he let the offense come to him. With over six minutes left in the second quarter, Gavin Lueck recorded a huge offensive rebound for the Owls. The junior kicked it out to Mallak for a wide-open three. As soon as the ball went into the basket, the crowd erupted.

No. 11 didn’t stop there. Throughout the contest, he was able to get into his rhythm and never looked back.  The senior finished with 27 points as the Owls easily took down the Hurons winning 77-31.

Owen Franklin added 17 points, while Lueck and Gabe Kellstrom each contributed with 11 points.

Oscoda (13-0) returns to action on Feb. 11, for a meeting with Alcona (6-8).
