ALPENA, Mich.— The Alpena County Board of Commissioners voted to approve a resolution naming the county a second amendment sanctuary. Alpena is the sixth county in the North East Michigan area to move forward with the resolution.
Community residents and military veterans voiced strong opinions Tuesday afternoon in support of the resolution. Commissioners said they are in support of gun ownership and will continue to adhere to the constitution.
Although Alpena is now a second amendment sanctuary county, laws governing the use and procession of guns are still in effect.
